Does he still care about me or am I just hoping?

Me and a guy started out as just really good friends but later that relationship turned into us both really liking eachother in a non-platonic way. We flirted and "played" boyfriend & girlfriend for awhile and then it all ended because of his commitment fears. A long story short, our friendship is very strained because you can tell that we both really care about eachother but for some reason he just won't go for it with me because...here we go...we are not the same race. He didn't say this but I don't think he is ready for an interrracial relationship. I accept that. It took me almost a year to get over him but lately little things have made me think that he still cares about me too. For example, he made me one of his Top friends on Myspace (something he had never done), he recently text me to ask if I was in town (i graduated and moved) because he wanted me at his party. Sounds normal but not when you two haven't spoken in 6 months at all. So,could he still possibly care about me?
