offer to shampoo her carpets for her if its that big of a deal, or you can just meet her out of the house, it is summer after all. Go to the beach, or a park, or a picnic, to the zoo. Possibilities are endless and if you feel uncomfortable around the carpets, block the baby off in the kitchen while you are all visiting and call the nights a early night.
