Anyone else have a problem with the premise of Star Trek: Voyager?

The crew is all okay with the fact that the Captain destroyed their only way home? Picard would have at least had a pow-wow with the crew for a second, "Options, Mr. Data?" I know, different Captain, but 70 years away and they didn't try to figure it out, just "FIRE! Okay guess we're here for a while..." and those dudes who couldn't make water somehow had space ships that were a threat to the Voyager? I don't know if I can buy into this series. I like the idea of being stranded in space but it seems like a dumb reason to get stranded.
